I'm just about settled into my new studio. It needed a few upgrades and additions. I didn't think twice about using home security to protect myself so after that's installed this place will be almost perfect.  Also I wanted the extra security because part of the space I'm going to devote to storing all the paintings I've done over the last five years that I haven't sold yet. I can't take any chances. I had a buddy in college who decided he was going to set up his home like a studio. He wanted it to be like an open studio where people can just come in and look through stacks of his art work and buy something if they were interested. Well, it sounded like a nice idea but someone came back to his property when he wasn't home. They knew how many paintings he had and what they were worth and where everything was. I guess this person must have also studied the flaws of the home and noticed my friend didn't have any type of home security. So it happened while my friend was out for the night celebrating his birthday. When he came home the entire place was cleaned out. They still never caught the guy. So now my friend doesn't give the open studios anymore but he is smarter about one thing. Right after it happened he decided to get a security unit for the entire place and since then he hasn't had any more problems.
