ONLINE PURCHASES
I can’t believe Wizard World is doubling the prices of their event tickets online! I was supposed to go this weekend and now I’m reconsidering it. It used to be that you paid twenty-five dollars for an event ticket that lasted all three days of the convention. You could walk around and see all the comic books up for sale and meet some of the struggling Indy artists trying to make a name. There were panels about writing scripts and drawing, artists doing signings, and presentations like what Marvel and DC Comics had planned for the next year, previews of movies like Iron Man and The Dark Knight, and even a few celebrities showed up. Sometimes you paid an extra twenty dollars to sit on a question and answer session with someone like Kevin Smith, but that was always worth it. Now they want to charge everyone fifty dollars for three-day event tickets. That’s for everyone. You can’t buy a one-day ticket for ten or two days for fifteen. And for special events like the thing with Kevin Smith, they’re charging around thirty dollars! They’re not even scheduling any cool guests anymore. They can’t even get William Shatner! They’ve people coming from MTV’s The Real World for crying out loud! I don’t even know who these people are. Sure, there’ll still be all these writers and artists from all over the comic book world I want to meet, but I don’t know if this is worth the cash they’re asking for.
